More space, enormous yards, cheaper housing costs, lower taxes, and fewer crowds. These are just some reasons behind millions of Americans deciding to pack up and move each year over the last decade.

Last year Americans fled big cities in droves. Most of these people are not looking back either. Over 15.9 million people had moved during the coronavirus, according to USPS data.

The pandemic has contributed in different ways to prompting millions of people to move, including the ability to now work remotely. With many companies offering remote work, it gave people opportunities to try new areas without the risk of losing their jobs.

Speaking to NBC News, Abigail Jaffe, 28, who works in public relations for tech companies, moved from New York City to Austin in August 2020. “I had wanted to move to Austin for a while but always thought that I’d have to quit my job first.”

According to posts on the FlexJobs database, 30 companies have switched to long-term remote work since the pandemic started. This includes major tech companies like Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, and Salesforce.

Cities experiencing an influx of new residents over the last year have been Sacramento, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Phoenix, Arizona; Austin, Texas; and Atlanta, Georgia. At least according to one of the top real estate sites, Redfin.

Redfin has found that interest was especially high for Austin as the number of people who moved there in 2020 was double compared to 2019.

It goes without surprise that as these cities grow; they are being looked at as tremendous upcoming radio markets. These hot new destinations may see their radio stations quickly blow up.
