Regular Investors are Flocking to Finfluencers and Podcasts to Learn All Things Crypto

Digital currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and meme favorite Dogecoin have garnered an impressive amount of hype in the last couple of years.

2021 has especially stood out as a remarkable year for digital coins and they have been a hot topic of discussion among notable billionaire investors such as Elon Musk and Mark Cuban.

In many ways, 2021 has been a “breakthrough” year, according to Dave Abner, the head of global development at Gemini, a popular cryptocurrency exchange. “There’s tremendous focus and attention being paid to [the crypto industry],” Abner said.

This year the crypto world has seen more institutional buying, an increase in positive regulatory talks, and a tremendous boost in interest from regular people of all ages. Trading has exploded in popularity due to the rise of exchanges and platforms that make buying and selling coins easy.

It’s hard to imagine that a little over a decade ago, Bitcoin was trading well under a penny at around $0.0008. Fast forward to this year and the number one digital currency broke highs many times and even reached an all-time high of $68,778.48 earlier this month.

Cryptos like Bitcoin have become one of the most buzz worthy topics in popular culture thanks to big investors and influencers using social media platforms and other mediums to discuss the coins.

A single tweet from Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has driven the crypto markets significantly up and down.

Bitcoin stock jumped after Musk said the electric vehicle maker would accept the cryptocurrency as payment, provided that mining for it ran on clean energy. The coin later saw an abrupt drop when Musk tweeted concerns over its energy usage.

Musk has also been an enormous influence with popular meme coin Dogecoin, helping to push it up over 500% in just a single trading day.

Despite the power of Musk’s tweets, investing in cryptocurrency is getting easier all the time because of online companies adopting it and other influencers talking about it on the internet.

Influencers on YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, Reddit and other platforms, find that financial content, such as cryptocurrency, is a successful formula.

“With bitcoin’s value soaring in recent months, new investors may be eager to get in on the action,” said Emma Fletcher, an analyst with the FTC.

Cryptocurrencies have been around for over a decade, but today, there are over 10,000 different cryptocurrencies, with an estimated total value of a staggering $3 trillion according to CoinGecko.

Crypto pioneers have taken to the internet and to podcasts to share market insights and perspectives for a global audience. Anyone who is joining the crypto bandwagon and wants to stay on top of all things crypto is quickly learning that following influencers is an easy way to go about it.
